12.00
When I arrive at the station I would like to start filming the first verse. This would be a close up shot of my performers face singing along with the lyrics. I have chosen to use a close up as when the song starts, the music is very calm before the chorus begins. So I will edit the film to zoom out when the music's tempo increases and then we can see more of the artist, her surroundings and more action will begin.
While here I will also film my artists singing to the chorus against any train that speeds past her. I have chosen to use a selection of mid shots from the waist upwards, and with the camera angled at a low angle, so my performer is looking downwards.
12.30
This is when I choose to film on the train. Here I will film my artist performing many separate dance sequences to use through out. This would be wide shots, as I can see the full routine that my artist is performing.
13.30
At New Look, I have decided to take multiple shots of my performer dancing on the stairs. This would be wide shot at a slight low angle, so you can see my artists body to take advantage of her styling and her dance moves. You will also be able to see the full stairs, however not so much that it is noticeable it is New Look. This means I have second options if I am not happy with my footage. This saves me time having to travel back to London on a different day to film again if I am not happy with what I have taken. This could cause a problem as there is a chance that the weather of styling will not look the same on a different day.
While on New Look Stairs I will also take many posed for photographs for my digipack covers which I can choose from.
15.00
Likewise, while on the steps at Piccadilly Circus I will film many separate dance routines using a selection of different shots and many posed photographs.
16.00
After the shots review, I will hopefully have time to correct any shots that I am not happy with on the train back home. I am hoping it will not be too dark, but these will only be corrections rather than shooting the whole sequence again so it may not matter.
While walking to different locations I will film in the street using a fish eye lens of my performing weaving in and out of the people. This would be a mid shot to take full advantage of the fish eye lens, so my performer is the main focus and there isn't too much of the people in London in my footage. These shots will be used nearer to the end of my song as there are long instrumental parts that means no miming in needed.
I have also decided to find a shutter background in London which I don't think will be hard to find, to film the second verse. I will fit this in during the day, and shouldn't take too long as there is no dance routine, its just a midshot using a fish eye lens.

Ideas for my Digipack
The digipack I'm going to create will be 6 sides. The CD will be in the middle pane, and there will be a pane each side of this that will fold in.
Another idea that I had was using the same repeated lyrics 'La Da De La Da Da' as the only graphic on some panes of the digipack. This was too inspired by Britney's Digipack that has the lettering design, however I have chosen to use the song lyrics and as I think these are very recognisable.

For the front cover, I know that I would like this to be in the same grainy effect that I will shoot my music video in. It will either be an action shot of my performer dancing on the stairs, or posing while leaning against the stair rail or leaning over it. I wanted to include the stairs, as this is a key idea in my music video. Depending on what idea I use, I will use the others on other panes on my digipack.
As well as the song title and artist, I would like to include the repeated chorus lyrics faintly over the top of the picture, so they don't stand out boldly, but they are still faintly visible. I want to include this because this is the most remembered lyrics from the song, and how most people recognise the song rather than the song title 'Gypsy Woman'.
After looking at Britneys Spears Digipack, I know that I would like a picture on the back of my digipack of my performer positioned to the side so I can have the tracklist next to her. One of my inital poses that I wanted to use was my performer leaning over the side of the railing of the steps, and I think that, if I positioned it right, this shot would be perfect to use

Existing Digipacks
This is a digipack for Britney Spears' album 'Femme Fatale'. One thing that I do like about this digipack is the simplicity of the side covers that have the initials of her and the album title. I think this looks very professional and elegant. The font used looks very posh, and reminds me of a perfume bottle.
The middle photo fits in well with the colour scheme, so doesn't look out of place. All the photos used are very simple - the album cover is just a close up of her face with hardly any expression, and the back is a mid shot of her side. Again, these fit in with the elegant and simple theme. If the photos had been action shots, it wouldn't of suited the theme of 'less is more'.
Overall the one thing that I like about the digipack is the black, gold and white colour scheme. I think these colours work really well together and gives off the impression that this is an elegant and grown up digipack.
One part of this digipack that I have been inspired by is the back cover. I like the idea of having a picture of the artist at the side, and then the track list filling up the rest of the room.
An entirely different digipack is by Katy Perry for her album 'Teenage Dream'. This is a fun and colourful digipack compared to Britney's more grown up image.
The overall look of the digipack is like a fantasy. This fits in well the album title 'Teenage Dream' as by the use of the clouds and her posing nude in the clouds like she is a cherub or goddess suits the idea of the dream. However by using the pop colours of bright blue and pink and the images of sweets and cakes is more suited the to the 'teenage' part of the album title.
One thing that I do like about this digipack is how the cloud image starts of the front cover and continues onto the back. This idea of continuity makes the digipack look complete and doesn't have the risk of two images next to eachother that look too different and like they're part of two different albums.
The design of the CD to look like cakes and sweets is also appealling as they are very different and not like a normal CD, which makes them standout. The CD on the left looks like a doughnut, which is clever as there is a hole in the middle of the CD and the one on the right looks like a lollipop, which will look effective when it is spinning around in the CD player. I think the design of the CD is very important as this is one thing that the audience will definitely see.

Gypsy Woman Existing CD cover
As I will be designing a CD cover for my digipack, I've decided to look at already existing CD for ideas I can gain inspiration from, what looks effective and what I don't think will be right for my CD cover.
As the genre for my music video is 90's dance music, I thought the best place to begin was looking at CD covers with the same genre around the same era. Then I realised that the best CD to look at first was to the song I was using - Crystal Waters Gypsy Woman.
I think that this CD cover fits in well with the 90's as a big fashion statement in the 90's was tie dye, so the designer has used a similar effect for the background. The lettering is also very flowy and in irregular shapes which looks almost hippy-like, which is linked to the tie dye theme.
The colours chosen are good, as the white stands out well against the blue/green background, and I like the sudden use of yellow for the song title and even the bright pink. One thing I am not so keen on is the extended song title (she's Homeless) which is in brackets, as I think it looks like it was added on last minute as it is in a different font and Italics.
The overall look of the cover reminds me of being under the sea because of the pattern of blues and greens and the shape of the title, which is clever as it fits in with her name of Crystal 'Waters' and has that 90's feel. However, I dont think this is right for my CD cover, as I was planning to shoot my video in an old grainy effect or even black and white, so it would be unusual to have a brightly coloured CD case.

Existing Magazine Advertisements
As well as making a music video, I will also make a magazine advertisement to promote the digipack. Before I started to design this, I looked at existing advertisements used in magazines to gain some inspiration and see what advertisements work well.
Madonna
I found this advertisements for Madonna's greatest hits album - Celebration which features all of her hits from her years in the music industry.
I like the comparison of using Madonna to Marylin Monroe, as this will catch people's eye, as Marylin Monroe was such an iconic figure. The image of her face is similar to the work of Andy Warhol who famously painted four of Marylin Monroe's faces, only changing the colour in each one. By using inspiration from his work, it draws people's attention to the advertisement as it is a well known piece of art. This also lets the audience know, that this album doesn't just feature Madonna's current hits, by using the old style picture, it shows that the album has some of her older music too.
The colours yellow, bright blue and pink are similar to the primary colours - yellow, blue and red, so by using these it is again a link to art. The whole image is very artistic, and looks as if it is sprayed onto a brick wall, which I think is different and much more interesting that a photograph. The whole look of the advertisement is very Pop Art.
Ellie Goulding
Another music advert I found was Ellie Goulding's album Lights. This is a striking advertisement as the bold picture of her face lit up against the black background makes it stand out. This is effective as the album is called 'Lights' and she is lit up in the dark by many little lights. These blend in with the texture of her hair, which makes her look almost magical.
By choosing to have the lettering white, it makes it very vivid and prominent against the background, which makes it easy for the audience to read so all the information is clearly visible.
I think it's a very simple advertisement. It has simple lettering, a simple picture with little editoral changes, and a plain layout, yet this all makes it very eye catching. It could also give out the impression that this CD doesn't need any dressing up to make it better than what it is, it just offers good music.
One thing that both of these magazines have in common is that they are close up camera shots of the artists face. This is very eyecatching, as they are both artists that are recognisable, so the audience will see these in a magazine, and if they know them, will recognise their face and want to find out about the page is advertising.

What is a Digipack
Along with designing the music video and magazine advertisement, I will also need to design a digipack. A digipack is a CD packaging that is made from cardboard rather than Jewel cases that are made of clear plastic. Digipacks either open like a book, or can three parts - one part opening to the left, the other part opening to the right and the CD in the middle or two panes folding inwards.
Pros of the Digipack
- They look nice, and many bands prefer them as there is more room to design.
- They don't crack like a Jewel Case
- They are more enviromentally friendly that Jewel cases as they can be recycled.
Cons of the Digipack
- They're more expensive than Jewel cases
- As they are made of thick paper, they can rip and fall apart. The teeth that hold the CD in place can break, meaning that the CD can fall out the bottom.
- Many people now don't buy CD's, after the creation of itunes. Many people nowdays download individual songs or whole CD's straight from itunes, so they are already on their computer and ready to transfer onto phones, Ipods or memory sticks. This also saves on storage space, as lots of CD's can take up room.

My Pitch
I created a pitch that I presented that included all the information that would sell my video to a potential music company. This experience helped me a lot as this was the first time I heard feedback about my idea for my music video.
After my presentation, there was a question and answer session. People in my class highlighted problems that I hadn't previously thought about.
Question 1
Becky's point about recreating a 90's style was a good question, as there are some aspects such as location and other people that I can't change to look 90's.

Styling
I will hopefully create this outfits from my own and my friend's wardrobe, as 90's style hasn't changed that much to current day. Some of the fashion has even returned, such as crop tops and baggy trousers, and although we might wear them differently nowdays, I can style the clothes to how they used to wear them.
Makeup and hair will be done before we leave to travel up London, as I will have the right equipment at home, but it won't be a struggle to take makeup supplies with us up London for touch ups when needed as they don't take up much room.
Unfortunatly if it does rain, I may decide to stop filming depending, as I don't watch the lens on the camera to become wet which will ruin the effect and filming. Also it does mean my performer (and me!) will to get wet and this isn't a look that I would like in my video.
Lyrics analysis
The main message of this song is about a woman who is just like any ordinary woman, however she is homeless and living on the streets.
Timeline
(Instrumental 0.00 - 0.08)
(Verse 1 - 0.08 -0.36)
She wakes up early every morning
Just to do her hair now
Because she cares yeah
Her day oh wouldn't be right
Without her make up
She's never had a make up
She's just like you and me
But she's homeless, she's homeless
As she stands there singing for money.
As these are the very few lyrics in the song, I need to make the most of these and have my performer sing along to them. I decided to use the location of a train station, as this is the start of her journey up to London like most working people do.

For this part of the song is where the steps routine will take place. This is because there are no proper lyrics that my performer can sing too, so I chose to have a dance sequence.

The Steps Dance Routine
Inspiration for my dance sequence on different steps comes from the Spice Girls Video 'Wannabe' where they too performed a dance routine on some stairs.
Their routine begins at 1.30 and it's very simple yet effective. I may even use some of their dance moves in my routines, as this is the kind of look I would like to recreate, and the Spice Girls were a popular band in the 90's, so their 90's moves fit in with my video.
One of the places I would like to film my routine is on the stairs leading to NewLook - the clothes shop in oxford street. These stairs are mirrored, so there very hiphop and suitable for dancing on.
Another place would be Piccadilly Circus steps. As there is lots of room on these stairs, I think I may be able to put together a routine, where my performer moves around the steps more.

The Camera Plan
Before I start filming my video, I had a trial using the camera taking some test videos so I knew which buttons to press. This was very helpful, as now when I do begin filming, I can make the most of the time I have.
During the trial, I wanted to figure out how to shoot in Black and White, which after reading the camera manual and trying out different options, I managed to work this out. You have to press the Menu button above the screen on the camera, then select picture style and Monochrome. This will then allow you to shoot in black and white.
As the plan for my video is to look vintage, I've decided that I may test out shooting my videos with a high ISO, so i purposely create the grainy effect. Most people try to avoid this, as they want the best exposure as possible, but this look may be suitable for my video. However, if this effect doesn't look good, then I will simply just film in black and white.
One of the shots I will use is a slight low angle shot to film on the stair sequence. This makes my performer seem higher and more raised up.
I would like to use a fish eye lense, so that my camera lens is rounded, making the focus at the centre bigger. I think this effect will look good when my performer is singing towards the camera.
After reading about different shutter speeds, I will try to use a shutter speed of 1/2 to 1/30 seconds as this adds motion blur to the background, which is what I would like when I film my performer infront of the train. I will only want the train to be a motion blur, while my performer is still in focus.

Resource Audit
I think the whole idea of my music video will be achievable as there is no impossible or unpractical ideas.
Location
One of the locations I need is Oxford Street as this is where NewLook is to film on their stairs and to film on the busy street. Oxford Street can be easy to get to and will take around 45 minutes to an hour. From my nearest station, which is Ruislip Gardens to Marble Arch station is one train ride. I will then have to walk from Marble Arch station to 500 Oxford Street which takes 5 minutes. As I will also want some shots in the train station and on the train, I can just film these before we get the train.
Styling
I don't think 90's fashion is that hard to achieve, as most of the styles such as big denim jackets and baggy trousers have been coming back into fashion. High Ponytails are easy to do, and make up can easily be done. I think I can recreate the 90's style by looking through my own and my friend's wardrobe and combining our clothes together. One thing I will need to buy is an old hair scrunchie like they used to wear in the 90's, however they sell these at pound stores, so won't cost a lot.
Problems
One problem that I may have, is that while I'm filming there will be people in the background. This could cause a problem as some of them may not simply walk past, they may stop and look, or even try and be in the shot. Hopefully, I'm choosing to shoot my video in the week, rather than a weekend so this limits the amount of people as most should be at work or school. Also people in the background probably won't be styled in the 90's theme, however I personally don't think this will be a problem, as London in such a unique place with lots of different styles and types of people, and the style of the 90's compared with the modern day hasn't changed that much.
A potentially big problem that I've been told about is about having permission to use New Look's stairs, as it is their property. Firstly I am going to try and risk it, as I won't be filming there for very long, and it will be only me and my performer so we shouldn't take up too much room. Also we won't enter the shop floor, so hopefully shouldn't disturb their shop. If we do need permission, I will then write to them asking for this, and if this is unsuccessful I will have to find a new place, which hopefully shouldn't be too hard as there are many steps in London.

Target Audience
There are two potential target audiences for my music video.
One of these would be the mid generation who were in their teenage/ young adult years in 1991 when this song was first released. As it is house/dance song, it would most likely of been played a lot in clubs and bars, and was in the charts which teenagers love to keep up to date with.
The second potential audience would be teenagers nowdays. Most teenagers know songs from previous years as well as current hits. Also it is very common now for artists to remix old songs and put a modern twist to them. An example of this would be Flo Rida's I Cry, which uses Brenda Russel's song Piano in the Dark which was orginally released in 1988. This song has proven very popular among the younger audience and reach number one.
I would want all my products to appeal more to the younger generation, and I will do this by using a young female performer so young girls can relate to her and look up to her. They would want to be like her and copy her style and movements. Young boys would develop a star crush on her, so would watch her video and be attracted to pictures of her so they can admire her.

About Crystal Waters
Crystal Waters is an american singer who was born in 1964.
She had been writing songs for many artists, and her first single, which was Gyspy Woman, was orginally for the singer Ultra Nate. However, first she recorded a short demo, and the producers liked her version of the song, they signed her and the song was never even given to Ultra Nate.
The song is most famous for its repeated lyrics 'La Da Dee La Da Da' and reached number 8 in the 100 Billboard hits and did even better in Europe by reaching number 2.
She went on to release many more dance hits, however none topped her success than Gyspy Woman (She's Homeless)

My Final Idea
I have decided to create more work for myself, and change my idea once again, as I wanted a video that had more of a structure, rather than just lots of shots put together with no real styling. I have decided to move on from Rihanna, and have chosen a much older song in the 90's - Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless). It's a real dance song, and I think I can have much more fun with this song and really exaggerate on the styling. I decided on this song after watching the TV show 'The X Factor' after a band performed it. I then instantly researched it on Youtube, and I like the beat and dance feel to it.
The main message of this song is about a woman who wakes up and is like everyone else, even though she is homeless and sings for money. For this I would like a performance based music video, with my main actress singing along to the verse lyrics to the camera. However, the whole song doesn't have much words - just the repeated 'La Da De La Da Da' so for this I will use a dance sequence, so this will be partly concept based and performance based, as she is still putting on a performance but not actually singing the words.
I am still going to use some of my previous ideas of shooting in black and white and the old camera effect as it's a 90's music with 90's fashion so I still believe the old black and white and vintage feel will work well. Also I'm still keen on having some lyrics shown in the video, like in the homemade Cheryl Cole video, however instead of having these written down, I may try and overlap these with the video so they appear faintly over the top.
Location
The main location I will like to use is the busy streets on central London. I've decided on London, as the song is about someone being homeless and London is a place that is known for people to be living on the streets. I will also like to use some in a train station where my performer is infront of a moving train, so we can see it driving past her, while she is standing still performing. I can use any train station to film this, so this wouldn't be a problem.
On Oxford Street, there is a large NewLook clothes shop with silver steps leading up to the store. This would be good to film a dance sequence on. Other steps I would like to use are those in Piccadilly circus as these are right in the busy centre and as they are in a round, they will be good to use.
Actors
I will have one female performing the song, as the song was originally sung by a female so it makes sense to have one performer. This will be a close friend of mine, as we spend most of our time together so we will have no trouble organising a time to meet up and film together. Also as she is a close friend, we are very comfortable around one another, so I won't feel awkward telling her what to do and styling her, and she won't feel embarrassed to perform in front of me. When we were younger, we have made home-made music videos before, so we work well together.

The Camera
The camera we will be using to shoot our video is the Canon EOS 550D, which I have never used before, so this will be a new technology I will need to experiment with and teach myself how to learn. Before I have even touched the camera, I researched some key words associated with the camera, so I know the correct terminology and a bit more about how the camera works.
Shutter Speed is the length of time the camera lens is open, which controls the amount of light allowed through the lens of the camera to the sensor. There are many different types of shutter speeds from a fraction of a second to several seconds long.
You would want to change the shutter speed, as on a bright day when there is a lot of light, if the shutter is open for a long time, more light will reach the sensor resulting in your pictures being very pale and white. This is Over Exposure. When there is not much light, you will need to shutter to be open for longer so more light can reach the sensor unless you will have an Under Exposed image which will be very dark.
Aperture is the size of the opening in the lens where the light travels through. It is another way determining how much light is let through to the sensor. The larger the opening the more light that is let through. Aperture is measured in 'f-stops' . Moving from one 'f-stop' to the next doubles or halves the size of the opening. A smaller 'f-stop' means a larger Aperture and more light, and a larger 'f-stop' number means a smaller Aperture so less light.
The ISO (International Standards Organisation) is another way to judge how much light is let in. ISO changes the camera's sensitivity to light. A higher ISO number means the camera's sensor is more sensitive to the light, so not much light is needed to be let in. However, the higher ISO number, the more 'grainy' your picture will be.
White Balance is the process of editing pictures so that objects that are white, appear white in the picture. Cameras often take images that have a blue or yellow shade to them. The most commonly used White Balance setting is Auto which is when the camera makes the best guess on the shot, however there are more that are present on most cameras. Fluorescent is useful to 'warm up' pictures, so stops the blue shade forming, where as Tungsten is useful for indoor shooting where light bulb's often create a yellow shade, so this balance will 'cool down' your shot.
The different Exposure modes are pre-programmed settings already stored on the camera that control the shutter speed, Aperture and ISO. Auto Mode use the built in light meter to determine these three things depending on the results. Shutter Priority Mode is the camera's priority, and allows you to select a shutter speed while the camera adjusts the Aperture. A fast shutter speed freezes the action, where as a slow shutter speed will show movement. Aperture Priority Mode means the Aperture is the priority and while you change this, the camera chnages the shutter speed. Manual Mode is when you control the Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO. Scene Modes offer options best for a scenario. Some scene modes are Portrait, Lanscape, Night, Party etc.

The Exposure Triangle are the three ways to control the exposure of your pictures. These are Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO.

My Second Idea
As Rihanna's song 'Do Ya Thing' contained swearing, I've decided to change song and therefore my idea to a more suitable song. I still would like to do a Rihanna Song as I enjoy listening to her music so have decided on a more subtle and chilled song called ' We All Want Love'. Again, this currently doesn't have a music video for it, so I won't be influenced by a current video.
The main message of this song is saying that everyone deserves to love someone and be loved by someone back. Rather than producing a performance based video which is the idea I had previously, I will know like to produce a more narrative based video in the form of a montage of clips showing a couple in love. I may still use some performance, as I would like some lyrics to be sung to the camera, but rather than it looking like the singer is giving a performance, I would want it to look like they are casually saying the lyrics.
I am still going to use some of my previous ideas of shooting in black and white and the old camera effect. Also I'm still keen on having some lyrics written down and filmed, like in the homemade Cheryl Cole video. Overall I would want my music video to look like an old film of a montage of clips showing people in love and their story.
Location
I will use many locations, mostly ones outside. I don't think I should shoot the video in one location as I want to create a video that show is all about a couple's memories, so I will need to use a variety of places they have been. Some of these places will be local such as walking down the street, however some will be up London.
Ideas that I currently have is of them rolling around on grassy fields, as this is them having fun and doing cheesy things that couples do. I will be able to achieve this using Northala Hills situated in Northolt, which is a 10 minute car journey from my current location.
Actors
I would like to use one boy and one girl in my video to make a couple. I was deciding to use many different couples, about five, acting out their love story, however this may be more difficult as I will have to find suitable times to arrange to film all these people. Also, boys are more reluctant to be involved, so it will be much easier to find one boy rather than five.
For the performance part of the video, I will have my actress singing lyrics as Rihanna is female, so it makes sense for her to sing lines.
Styling
I don't want an expensive or unique clothing to be used in my video, just casual clothing that will be provided by my actor and actress. This makes the video more natural. It won't cost anything easier, as no new clothes will be needed.
As it's getting near Christmas, I will like some shots of my actor and actress wrapped up in Christmas clothing, such as coats, scarfs and gloves, as this will make them more cosy and they can be huddled up together. Christmas is also a romantic time of the year, and is known for spending time with loved ones.

My First Idea
I have decided to create a video for my second initial idea - Rihanna's Do Ya Thing. I have decided to choose this song, as after hearing the video, and looking at inspiration from retro videos and pictures which is the effect I would like to use, I think it will go well with this song.
Concept
My first idea for the concept of the video is to have one main actress skipping and parading around the streets of a run down area. Part of the song she will be miming the lyrics, while the other we see her simply having fun and playing up to the camera. I will shoot the video in black and white so it has an old feel to it and will try and use an old film-like effect where the camera jumps around and flickers.
Parts of the video will also feature signs/symbols or lyrics written down from the song, like the ones in the Cheryl Cole lyric video. This will feasible as these are a quick and easy to create, and they are a good way of filling up time while still looking professional if I can't film enough material.
Location
I would like a really run down area so the video has the vintage feel. The type of scenes that I am thinking about is old back streets with lots of graffiti or busy streets as they have that old retro street style. Currently I am thinking of places up London, such as Camden Town, as it is known for its daring street style.
I think by creating a video outside, its more achievable as its free of cost and there will be plenty of places up London that have the right look that I would like to create.
Styling
The type of clothing I would like my actress to wear is really retro yet edgy clothing. All my inspiration for clothing has come from Rihanna's retro style photo shoot wear she is wearing dungarees and a bandanna.
Also as the song is about loving someone for who they are, and knowing that they love you for who you are, and just enjoying yourself, I want this message to come through the video. The styling is very important, as the style I have decided to use is quite daring and different, so it gives out the message that 'this is who I am, love me for me'. Also the style is very experimental and fun which is also the message of the song.
As there is only one person that I would like to feature in my video, it will make it a lot easier to film, as there is more chance of one person being free, rather than four girls for my initial idea of creating a girl band video. The styling won't cost a lot either, as this look is easily achievable and can be made by using my clothes and my main actress.

Camera Inspiration
I watched a home made video of Cheryl Cole's new song 'Screw You' I think the camera effect is one that I would like to use. It has an old retro feel, and when the camera flicks and jumps around makes it look like an old movie.
Although this isn't a performance video, it is only pictures spelling out the lyrics, I like this effect and I am considering use some pictures of the key lyrics in my video or have some lyrics appear over the top of my video.

Inital Idea Two
Another idea I've had is to create a video to a not very well known Rihanna song that currently doesn't have a video. I think by creating a music video to a song that doesn't have one, I won't be influenced by the original and can start from new.
The song I've been thinking about is one of my favourites from her newest album Talk That Talk called 'Do Ya Thing'. Whenever I hear this the introduction to this song, it makes me thing of summer and walking in the sunshine as its very upbeat. I also think that he has a vintage feel to it, and these pictures of Rihannas style is one that I would like to create in the video.

Initial Idea One
After watching Little Mix's video for Wings, I would like to of recreated a similar performance based video with a group of girls dancing around on screen. I think it's such a fun video to watch and would be to create. I like the styling of the girls as it's young, edgy and on trend. The special effects too would of been interesting to play around with, as with this type of video, I could too use lots of different shapes and colours flying around the screen.
I think this video would be hard to recreate as I would have to find four girls you would be willing to be part of the video. However, it would not be impossible, as there are no expensive clothing or location. In the Wings Video, they have used what looks like an old warehouse. Although this wouldn't be expensive, it may be difficult finding one that I could use.
Another possibility would be to use Little Mix's song Wings, and create a different video, however I think this may be hard, as every time I hear it I think of the original, and it's song that I think would need some choreography, so it could be too similar to their version.

Inspiration
I made a mind map about some of the music videos that I have enjoyed watching, have been of an inspiration, and would like to try and recreate.

Animation Music Video
An example of an animation based music video is Britney Spears' Break the Ice. The whole video is done in a cartoon style, where even Britney Spears has been made into a cartoon and even sings part of the lyrics.
The main concept of the video was Britney's idea, as like Andrew Goodwin's Intertexuality point, Britney wanted to link this video with her previous Toxic video, as she wanted her character of a superhero to appear, so they created a superhero Britney in an Anime style. It begins with her breaking into a laboratory, and seeing lots of clones, including one of herself. She leaves a bomb with these clones, meanwhile destroying the evil villain. After dodging a bullet and avoiding security, the bomb finally explodes as she jumps out of the burning building with the word 'Victory' on the side. The text 'To be continued' appears to suggest that it isn't over, and the superhero Britney has more people to save. Rather than it being a music video, it is more like a TV series.
The lighting of the video is very dark, as the main colours used are blues and blacks. This gives an evil feel to the video, as shows that it is at night and everything is very moody and mysterious.
At 0.56 seconds, a split screen editing shot is used where the screen is split into twice, showing an evil villain on one side with red lighting, and Britney on the other in a blue light. The split screen is a close up of one side of their face. By using this split screen, it shows that they are having intense eye contact, as the viewer can see both of their eyes at the same time. The use of the colour red for the villain also represents evil, as red is danger colour, for example used in stop or warning signs. Blue for Britney is quite a cool and calm colour. It then continues showing the villain flying through the air in many different types of cut shots of his back, then his fists. This shows that he zooming towards Britney, as that it is at such a fast pace, you only need a few shots to show this. If a continuous shot was used, it wouldn't show his intense speed.

Concept Based Music Video
OK Go - Here It Goes Again
The video by OK Go is a concept based video as it has one idea throughout the video that has no connection with the song. The video is very unusual and unlike anything that has ever been created before, which is the reason why many people enjoy watching it.
There are no special effects or a variety of camera shots used in the video, which gives it a homemade feel. The camera angle is a low angle, so it is filming slightly upwards which gives the impression that they have placed it on an object themselves. Also there is no fancy location or fancy equipment or styling, just four treadmills as props and their own clothes. One member of the band even presses the remote control to start the song playing. The fact that the video looks homemade and the band make a few mistakes while performing their routine, makes the video more entertaining and comical and gives out the message of just four men having fun. Often the first take of a video is the best as that's when it is more spontaneous, and it is hard to recreate the same feel.
Narrative Based Music Videos
Katy Perry's Last Friday Night is a good example of a Narrative Based music video, as through out the 8 minutes it tells the story of what happened that night. The text at the beginning reads ' Katy Perry in Last Friday Night' which suggests it's like she is starring in a film and at the end there's credits and cast.
There is a strong illustrative relationship between the lyrics and visual, as there are many lyrics which are acted out in the video. For example, at 0.57 she sings the words 'there's a stranger in my bed' and at the same time she looks to her left to see the stranger lying next to her. There's also a mention of pictures of last night being online and Katy looks at them on her computer.
Styling
Katy has been styled well in this video to give her the stereotypical 'geek' look. This consists of big glasses, not very stylish clothes, and she's even had braces put on. This makes the video more comical as we have never seen her look like this before. The styling goes well with the video, as it makes it more unusual for her stereotype of a geek to be involved in a wild part on a Friday night. We first see her spending her Friday night in her room doing a suduko puzzle and being irritated by the loud noise coming from the party. When she goes to complain she is horrified to see people dancing and all the mess.
However, we later see her transformation into a stylish women, after being disappointed the 'popular' boy isn't interested in her. She has her hair done, braces cut off, and now she wears heels, a tight revealing top and mini skirt.
Location
The video begins showing a a paper round boy delivering newspapers in a small neighbourhood. The grass is bright green and all the houses are big and immaculate. This gives the impression of a perfect neighbourhood, where Katy Perry is a good girl with a perfect life. Her bedroom is very pink and girly, and she has many trophies, medals, cuddly toys and a poster of the solar system, which reinforces that she is a perfect student and still quite young in her ways. A typical teenage room would be more grown up.
Performance Based Music Videos
Performance Based
A performance based video is a common type for boy bands as it allows the viewer, which is mostly younger females who are fascinated with boy bands, to see their faces and feel as if they are singing to them.
An example of this is One Direction's One Thing as in this video, the boys are standing infront of the camera singing into it.
One of Andrew Goodwin's key points is Genre Characteristics, and a strong characteristic for a performance based music video is a dance routine for a boy band. It also allows the chance for boy bands to reinforce the typical boy band stereotype of them being a close and fun band, and young girls will love to watch their favourite boys perform a routine in which they can copy and perfect.
Another characteristic is for them to have the 'boyband' look. In this video they are all dressed very smartly, as it gives them a chance to show everyone that they look good and are up to date with fashion and they have 'that image'.
The star image of the artist is also explored in this video, as lots of close up camera shots are used when the boys are singing into the camera. This is so the audience of young girls can get a good look at each of their faces which is what they want to see.
The editing involves lots of cut shots showing the boys having fun running down a hill, playing on space - hoppers and riding bikes. These are also sped up, so it looks as if they are just running around having fun, which is too the image of a boy band. Other props that are used in the big red London bus which features in the background and they travel around London on meeting their fans. There are also many shots of famous London landmarks such as Big Ben, St Paul's Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament. This all reinforces that they are London boys, and that they love London girls which would be the main audience.
The lighting of the video changes from day light to night time at the end of the video, which gives the impression that they boys are travelled around London all day meeting their fans, yet they are still having fun. This is reinforcing the representation of youth, as they are only young boys aged 18 to 21, and at this age all the want to do is have fun and stay up most of the night.
Likewise, in the sixties, The Beatles were one of the big boy bands at the time, and most of their videos were performanced based. This was too because they had a lot of female fans, so by making a video where their fans can physically watch them performing it, makes the girls feel as if they are being sung to, and can eagerly watch their 'boyband crush'.
Again, lots of close up are used of the boys faces, so the females get really look and study their faces, and be as close to them as they possible can.
In the eighties, it was the boy band era with big bands such as Westlife, Spandau Ballet, Take That and Wham. Wham were a big band, and most people had a huge crush on George Micheal. In their video for Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, he is the first person you see, and is the one who is seen most on the video dancing and singing, as he is the one that the fans want to see most.
At 21 seconds, an extreme close up is shot of just his face, which lets the audience look right into his eyes and feel as if he is singing to them. At 35 seconds, when he jumps back to the main stage, it is only him that we see jump back. Slow motion is even used so that the audience can thoroughly watch him in action flying through the air.
He is wearing all white , which is a colour known for making someone look more tanned. Also he hair has been perfectly styled, and is wearing small hoops in each year, which was a big fashion trend during the eighties.
A split screen is used at 48 seconds. Previously the whole of the stage and audience is ebing filmed, however the split screen inserts a two second shot of George Micheal down the middle, so although we can see him dancing on the left hand side, the audience's attention is drawn to the new screen and get to see him clearer.
