Animation Music Video

An example of an animation based music video is Britney Spears' Break the Ice. The whole video is done in a cartoon style, where even Britney Spears has been made into a cartoon and even sings part of the lyrics.

The main concept of the video was Britney's idea, as like Andrew Goodwin's Intertexuality point, Britney wanted to link this video with her previous Toxic video, as she wanted her character of a superhero to appear, so they created a superhero Britney in an Anime style. It begins with her breaking into a laboratory, and seeing lots of clones, including one of herself. She leaves a bomb with these clones, meanwhile destroying the evil villain. After dodging a bullet and avoiding security, the bomb finally explodes as she jumps out of the burning building with the word 'Victory' on the side. The text 'To be continued' appears to suggest that it isn't over, and the superhero Britney has more people to save. Rather than it being a music video, it is more like a TV series.

The lighting of the video is very dark, as the main colours used are blues and blacks. This gives an evil feel to the video, as shows that it is at night and everything is very moody and mysterious.

At 0.56 seconds, a split screen editing shot is used where the screen is split into twice, showing an evil villain on one side with red lighting, and Britney on the other in a blue light. The split screen is a close up of one side of their face. By using this split screen, it shows that they are having intense eye contact, as the viewer can see both of their eyes at the same time. The use of the colour red for the villain also represents evil, as red is danger colour, for example used in stop or warning signs. Blue for Britney is quite a cool and calm colour. It then continues showing the villain flying through the air in many different types of cut shots of his back, then his fists.  This shows that he zooming towards Britney, as that it is at such a fast pace, you only need a few shots to show this. If a continuous shot was used, it wouldn't show his intense speed.
